Every day, teachers quietly perform acts of dedication that go far beyond the classroom. Whether staying late to tutor struggling students, buying supplies out of their own pockets or offering a listening ear during tough times, educators consistently show an unwavering commitment to their students’ growth and well-being. At Rice Continuing Studies, we have the opportunity to invest in these teachers who invest so much of themselves into our community and make it thrive.
We saw an example of teacher dedication on a cold and rainy Saturday earlier this year. While most of us were warm in our beds, a group of 25 Houston-area AP teachers made their way to the Rice campus to participate in the Center for Education’s “Community of Practice,” part of the school’s college readiness initiatives. This yearlong program is designed for educators new to teaching an AP subject. In online and in-person meetings throughout the academic year, teachers receive support, guidance and best practices to ensure their success, which propels their students forward.
