Build Your Teaching Career With Rice

In Texas, all public colleges and universities are required to accept dual credit, which is a program that offers college course credit for taking high school classes. The Glasscock School offers two courses of study that can help you reach your goal of teaching college-level or dual credit courses.

To teach college-level dual credit classes in the State of Texas, high school teachers must hold a graduate degree (Master's or PhD) and have eighteen graduate hours (six courses) in the teaching field.

Teachers that possess the appropriate credentials to teach dual credit courses in their content areas are in high demand and have the potential to maximize their earning power while providing college access and increasing college affordability for their students.

Two Plans of Study

For college-level academic courses, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requires dual credit teachers to hold a master’s or doctoral degree in the content area or a master's degree with 18 graduate hours in the discipline being taught.

At Rice, we meet teachers where they are and provide two paths to accommodate every teacher's professional development needs.

Created for teachers who hold a master’s degree but lack the required 18 graduate content hours, this option helps teachers with a master’s degree efficiently meet the requirements to teach dual credit courses. Currently, courses are only available in the following disciplines: English and Social Sciences/History.
