Barry N. Mandel is the recently retired president and park director of Discovery Green, a 12-acre park that serves as a public gathering space, holds hundreds of events, and welcomed over 15 million visitors in the 13 years of his tenure. As a fourth-generation Houstonian, Mr. Mandel has exhibited his passion and commitment to Downtown Houston throughout his accomplished career. Prior to joining Discovery Green, he led many successful ventures as chief operating officer and capital campaign director at Legacy Community Health, president of the Houston Downtown Alliance, and executive director of the Theater District Association. Mr. Mandel has volunteered his time in board service to help numerous organizations including Casa de Esperanza, Undies for Everyone, American Leadership Forum, Talento Bilingue, Girls, Inc., the Holocaust Museum Houston, Houston Food Bank, Downtown Redevelopment Authority and AIDS Foundation Houston.
